I’m Jaako Onkamo, a wedding photographer working in Suurmetsä. For me, wedding photography is a way to be fully present at an important moment and to paint a couple’s story with images — I don’t want to stage moments excessively, but to record them as genuine and moving. My working approach is rooted in documentary wedding photography: I look for moments, expressions and details that tell each couple’s unique story without unnecessary posing. On the day I move unobtrusively, because a documentary approach requires sensitivity and the ability to react to the spontaneous. I also offer engagement photography, which works wonderfully as a rehearsal and helps you relax in front of the camera before the wedding. Although my main focus is wedding photography, my practice is influenced by other photographic work and by my background in education. I do documentary photography and occasionally run art-education workshops, which keeps my practice evolving and helps me support clients’ confidence in front of the camera. I present these activities as complementary to the deep wedding photography experience I provide.
